Trifecta is a meal delivery service that helps make eating healthily easier by providing ready-made meals tailored to meet any diet or lifestyle.

In this Trifecta review post, we’ll discuss whether Trifecta’s subscription meals taste good and whether they are worth the money. We’ll consider everything from the cost, quality of ingredients, convenience, and satisfaction with taste.

And while Trifecta is so much more than just a meal subscription (they have an app and personalized coaching too), I’ll be mostly reviewing the food portion of the Trifecta Nutrition subscription service. Let’s go!

How The Trifecta Meal Subscription Works

The process is simple. First, you choose a meal plan that fits your dietary needs and preferences, such as Whole 30, keto, vegetarian, vegan, or paleo. You can check out all the meal plans as well as the macros associated with them all here.

It’s important to note that you won’t have the choice of what meals you receive as all the plans are “chef’s choice”, with over 25 unique chef-selected meals rotating weekly.

From there, you submit your credit card info, sit back, and wait for the upcoming shipment date. The meals are then delivered straight to your door, ready to eat with just a few minutes of heating.

After you choose your meal plan, it’s time to download the app.

With the new Trifecta app, you get a fully developed weight loss program right in the palm of your hand. You will get a tailored plan to fit your goals. And when they say tailored, they mean it. It’s not a generic fitness plan, it’s really customized for YOU.

Track your macros, manage your meal plan, and stay motivated to hit your goals with the Trifecta community.

How Does Trifecta Nutrition Plan Work

Pros and Cons of Trifecta

Pros

  • Done-for-you meals mean you don’t need to waste time cooking at all. Just reheat!
  • Meals will help you hit your macros
  • You get more than just meals, you get a whole weight-loss program
  • Subscription comes with access to the Trifecta app (helps you track macros , gain access to Trifecta community, daily education on the science behind fat loss and habit-building).

Cons

  • Not the most delicious meals offered
  • Some meals taste “too healthy”
  • Costs more than other meal subscription services like Factor or RealEats ($15 per meal for Trifecta vs $10-13 per meal with others)
  • Cannot choose your specific meals

One of the biggest advantages of Trifecta is the convenience factor. No more meal prepping or worrying about what to eat for lunch. Trifecta takes care of it all, and the meals are ready to eat in just minutes. Additionally, you’ll know that every meal is healthy, meets all your macros, and customizable to meet your dietary needs.

On the downside, Trifecta’s meals can be way more expensive than if you were to buy the ingredients and cook the meals yourself. Also, while the meals are healthy and balanced, they may not be as personalized as you would like.

How Much Do Trifecta Meals Cost?

Depending on which meal plan you pick, you may be paying $99/week up to $110/week for the lowest plan of 7 meals per week. If you plan on subscribing to more meals per week, the price goes up from there.

For this review, I chose 14 Whole 30 meals which came out to $219/week (with a 50% off my first shipment promo code).

Based on the original price, each meal backs out to $15.64. With the coupon, each meal ended up being $8.57.

That might seem a bit higher than other meal subscription services (other meal subscription services tend to average $11-13 per meal without discounts). But remember, you’ll also have to factor in the fact that you get access to the Trifecta community and app benefits too!

Types Of Meals Trifecta Offers

First off, the great thing about Trifecta is that the meals come fully prepared and vacuum-sealed, so they’ll stay fresh in the fridge for up to 7 days or 3 months in the freezer.

You can easily reheat the food in the air-fryer, oven, microwave, or on the stovetop–no chopping or real cooking involved.

Trifecta offers specialty meal plans, such as Whole 30, clean eating, vegan, keto, and paleo, so you can find a meal plan that fits your dietary needs exactly.

In terms of the food that’s actually delivered, you can expect a wide variety of meals, including classic options like grilled chicken and steamed vegetables, as well as more unique options like stir-fry bowls.

The thing to note is that you do NOT get to choose exactly what meals get delivered. You just choose your preference of diet and just wait for the meals to arrive.

Some of the meals I received in my first Trifecta box include:

  • Shrimp etouffee with bell peppers, creole seasonings, and cauliflower
  • Sweet onion, beef with cauliflower onions and mushrooms
  • Chicken breast and cauliflower with citrus and carrots
  • Chicken and roasted red peppers with tomatoes and bell peppers
  • Chicken and sweet potato bowl with cauliflower and fire roasted tomatoes
  • Spicy southwestern, turkey skillet with sweet potatoes, bell peppers, and guacamole
  • Salmon with green Romesco sauce with spinach, sweet potatoes, and bell peppers

Here’s a peek at what the meals look like when heated up.

Do Trifecta Meals Taste Good?

Do Trifecta meals taste good? Eh.

My Trifecta meals generally tasted fine, however they’re not so much better than “healthy food” that I’d cook at home. The flavors in the meals just didn’t offer enough complexity and boldness that I’d continue paying $150-200 per week for them.

They certainly tasted healthy, which was expected. But none of them tasted outstandingly delicious that had me begging for more.

This might have been due to the meals being frozen beforehand. When I received my box, I found that the meals, along with the ice packs, were actually frozen. After microwaving as per the container’s instructions (no need to poke holes in the lid/wrapper), some of the meals were actually a bit watery. Not our thing.

Shrimp etouffee - Trifecta Meal Subscription Review
Shrimp etouffee was a bit more watery than I would have liked; lacks the seasoning and deep flavor of a real etouffee.

Depending on what you’re used to eating, Trifecta meals may not be the most delicious meal subscription option available. While Trifecta’s meals are certainly healthy and well-balanced, they may not have the bold flavors or gourmet quality that some people look for in their meals.

Is Trifecta Worth The Money?

Whether Trifecta is worth the money depends on an individual’s specific needs and preferences. Some people may find that the convenience and healthy options offered by Trifecta make it worth the cost, while others may prefer to cook their own meals or find more cost-effective meal solutions.

Ultimately, the value of Trifecta will depend on factors such as budget, dietary restrictions, and personal preferences for convenience and healthy eating.

Personally speaking, Trifecta was not worth the money for me due to the fullness level I felt after eating them and the overall taste.

First off, because the meals I received all hovered around 430-480 calories, I typically felt hungry after just a few hours. I found that for lunch, I could get by and feel full until dinner time, but I did have to pair my dinnertime Trifecta meal with some additional food because I just didn’t feel full.

With my lifestyle, I do IF (intermittent fast) and try to just eat a lunch meal and a dinner meal. I found that I had to change up my eating habits to 3 meals a day with Trifecta alone simply because the meals were so much less in calories than I was used to eating.

(For reference, prior to eating this, I was eating either Factor 75 meals or homecooked meals with a mix of rice, protein, and veggies.)

Secondly, the taste of the meals was just okay. It certainly didn’t taste gourmet–just healthy. And to some people, that’s okay.

But, if you’re looking for tasty and nutritious made-for-you meals that’ll keep you peeking at the clock waiting for the chance to truly enjoy your next meal, there are some better alternatives out there such as Factor 75 — my personal favorite meal subscription box thus far!

Factor offers meal plans that are both nutritious and satisfying, with a wide variety of options that are sure to please even the pickiest eaters. What sets Factor apart is their commitment to using high-quality ingredients and expertly crafting each meal for maximum flavor and satisfaction.

Plus, you get to choose your own meals. Every single one of them!

With Factor, I actually look forward to my next meal, rather than simply tolerating it as a necessary part of my day.

If you’re looking for a meal subscription that tastes great and leaves you feeling full and satisfied, I personally would recommend Factor 75 over Trifecta. To date, I’ve received about 8 shipments of Factor and still have not been able to find a meal that I’ve disliked, seriously!

However, I’d like to mention that I’m just speaking about the quality of the food alone. Trifecta’s community, personalized coaching, and health app are huge benefits for serious weight loss folks that you simply won’t find at Factor 75.

So if you prioritize the convenience of ready-made meals, controlled calories, and diet support (that includes coaching and the help of the Trifecta health app) you may still find that Trifecta is the right choice for you!

Trifecta Alternatives: Other Meal Subscription Boxes

Trifecta is just one of several meal delivery services available on the market. Here are some alternatives to Trifecta that also offer healthy, convenient meal options that might be better for you.

Factor 75

An example of what some of the meal options could look like.

Factor 75 is my personal favorite! They offers gourmet, nutritious meals that are made with high-quality ingredients. They offer a variety of meal plans, including Protein Plus, vegan, vegetarian, ketogenic, and paleo, to meet a range of dietary needs.

With Factor, you’ll get to choose each and every single one of your meals, so you can be sure you’re getting a box of stuff you actually want to eat. Plus, their meals are actually incredibly delicious for “healthy meals”. I’m not one to enjoy chicken breast, but Factor’s chicken meals are always juicy and tender. I don’t know how they do it!

The price per meal (without the first-box discount) hovers around $10-12 per meal, which is cheaper than Trifecta’s meals. Not only that, but Factor’s welcome offer is incredible, often giving you 60% off your first box–plus additional discounts off your second and third boxes too.

Trifecta Meals: Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Your Box Of Meals Come Packaged?

Meals are delivered in an insulated cardboard box with plenty of environmentally-friendly ice packs. I received my meals in the morning, and upon opening them, I found the box to still be very cold.

In fact, my meals were actually frozen-looking. Upon consulting the Trifecta website about this, I learned that the meals were actually deep-chilled to maintain freshness (as the food does not contain preservatives).

Trifecta Meal Subscription Unboxing - Is Trifecta Worth The Money?

Are Trifecta Meals Frozen?

Your meals will come sealed and deep-chilled to maintain freshness (as the food does not contain preservatives).

While it did look frozen to me, they did “defrost” rather quickly when I transferred them into my fridge, which meant they were more in the deep-chilled state vs being completely frozen.

How Long Can Trifecta Meals Stay In The Box?

While their site states that your food will remain cold for “several hours after delivery”, I personally think they’ll remain cold and fresh for way longer than “several hours”.

Your results may vary, but when I received my box at 11 am, I didn’t get a chance to put them in the refrigerator until 5:30 pm. When I unboxed everything, I found the ice packs to still be completely solid and the meals to still be in their deep chilled state.

The insulation of the box is really good, so I’d comfortably say that the meals could stay in there overnight and be completely fine. Heck, I think the refrigerated case inside can even keep the food fresh for as long as 72 hours!

How Long Do Trifecta Meals Last?

For optimal taste, it’s recommended to refrigerate the food within 7 days of receiving it. Alternatively, it can be frozen for up to 3 months upon delivery.

Obviously, the food will taste better when eaten from refrigeration, but it’s better to freeze your meals if you don’t think you’ll have the chance to eat them before the 7 days are up.

Can I Skip A Week Of Meals?

You can skip weeks anytime, even multiple weeks at a time. Trifecta purchases all of their ingredients on Saturdays so they ask that you update your account by the Friday prior to your next delivery.
